We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to work at a career they love. At WORKS Camp, our mission is to provide a fun and safe environment for youth to learn, grow, and gain job skills that will prepare them to get a career they love. A job is not right for all students but accessing the community is.
Students will tour local business they are interested in.
*New! 1/2 paid Internship last day of class at business of their choice.
Last year some students where hired!
Students get a gift card from local business each day for attending.
Students will learn about jobs and careers from business owners.
Any Student 14 and up who has an IEP, 504 and wants to explore future careers or just wants to better access their community and have fun.

Tour of Center and Job Exploration: discover the variety of jobs available at the center, including swim teacher, lifeguard, chemical safety in maintaining pool, grounds, & front desk management. Includes safety and first aid instruction from a professional at the center.
Participants practice money management skills by paying for their admission to the pool and ensuring they receive correct change, etc.
-Meet with a local rancher about opportunities in the agriculture industry in our area, including beef & feed production, marketing, advocating, and community relations

Leave for Lehman Caves (participants bring a sack lunch this day, using what they’ve learned over the week about nutrition and meal planning)

Each student goes to the site they selected from visits during the week and completes a job shadow on site one-on-one with an employee.
Review and update goals to get a job–how can what you’ve learned this week help with future employment endeavors?
Self-reflection on Life Skills
Discussion (led by crew leaders & aided by adult mentors) on questions such as the following:
● How did I do with money management this week?
● How did I implement what I learned about nutrition this week?
● How will what I learned about transportation and safety help me?

Tour Ely Train Museum (Nevada Northern Railway)
Tour Museum & Explore Careers: learn about job sites and visit representatives in the Ely Train Station to discover the variety of job options available at the museum/train station, including train shipping and travel related jobs, museum curator jobs, marketing, member services, grounds, accounting, custodial, maintenance, public relations, and other departments). Includes transportation safety instruction from a professional at the railway site.
End with a train ride (camp participants pay for their own train admission (practicing life skills, especially money management).
Parents invited for lunch and closing ceremonies
